Glazed inside and out. The crystalline formations have movement to them under a light source and almost look like sand dollars.

Information on the artist:

"I'm a third-generation potter. My grandmother started in 1946, and our family has been doing it ever since. My parents specialized in raku. In 1989 I decided to take on the most challenging of all ceramic glazes: CRYSTALLINE. And I love it.

All of my ceramics are high-fired porcelain with a crystalline glaze. The crystals GROW IN THE GLAZE while it is held at a very high temperature.

Since rather few people have seen this very unusual ceramic glaze, here are a few facts about it:

The patterns you see on every piece of pottery are due to the many crystals that grew in the glaze.

The number of crystals and their sizes, shapes, and colors are determined not only by the chemicals in the glaze, but also depend heavily upon the exact heating schedule that each piece of pottery underwent while firing. And since each ceramic shape (vases, bowls, ornaments, jewelry, etc.) fires somewhat differently, the crystal designs also depend upon the shape of the piece.

This ceramic glaze was developed in France in 1850, but has been rarely used because of the technical difficulties associated with its firing.

In my 28 years of working exclusively with this glaze on porcelain I have been able to develop many colors and crystal patterns that are very striking. Whether you are looking for a gift idea or something special for yourself, I believe that you will find my crystalline glazes to be of great interest.

Every piece is unique. It is not possible to exactly replicate any given pattern of crystal formations

I hand make every piece by myself. No employees or apprentices."

Signed on the bottom by the artist.

8" by 4" at its widest

1 lb 7 oz

The piece shown is the exact one you will receive
