There's one man in Java, Indonesia who seems to be the godfather of the alphabet agate cabochons. But how is this possible? Imagine a dried up pond and its mud becomes hard and cracks. Different color agate fills the healed cracks and a skilled craftsman with a trained eye turns it into a cabochon. The majority of the filled cracks are only a few millimeters. The trick is to not polish through the thin layer of color.
Of course over the years there's been a lot of nay sayers about whether these sets are natural or man made/enhanced. So in the summer of 2003, GIA came out with a newsletter article clarifying that the agates are natural and their consistent size and pattern are the result of skilled lapidary work.
This particular set is glued to the paper and can be peeled off. A black square craft box will be included with padding inside for storage and display.
