Crinoid Fossil with Stand

Unearthed from the fossil-rich beds of Morocco’s Sahara near Erfoud, these crinoid fossils date back approximately 420-400 million years, to a time when this now-arid desert lay beneath a warm, thriving ocean. Often called “sea lilies,” crinoids were not plants but marine animals, anchored to the seafloor and using delicate, feathery arms to filter nutrients from the water.

Each specimen captures a moment from this ancient marine ecosystem—preserved in remarkable detail within stone that formed over hundreds of millions of years. Carefully quarried by hand from deep underground layers, these fossils reflect both the natural beauty of prehistoric life and the craftsmanship required to bring them to the surface.
