Petrified Pepper Wood Log, Wyoming

Petrified wood log from the Schinoxylon species of trees that is now extinct. It was related to modern pepper trees and the cashew family. It's been cut and polished on the top but the rest has been left natural. Lining the opening along the side is chalcedony. You can also find it on the bottom and in places around the outside of the log. This tree grew in the Eocene (33.9-55.8 million years ago).

From the Blue Forest, Green River formation, Eden Valley, Sweetwater County, Wyoming. (Comes with an ID card). Self stands naturally.
